A free-range egg producer is encouraging the public to get involved in supporting a Guinness World record attempt for the greatest distance to carry an egg in one week, by taking on 300 miles of the Cornish coast path from the 3rd-7th July 2023.

The initiative, which is the brainchild of Cornish company St. Ewe Free Range Eggs, will use the record attempt to raise £1m for Hospitality Action and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The public is being encouraged to support the participants at the handover locations, dotted around the routes, as well as at the finish line, where there will be a celebration of the five-day attempt and there will be a chance to see them in Falmouth.

The Great Cornish Egg and Spoon race will see individuals and businesses from across the Southwest and the UK joining in to support the two teams as they carry an egg along the Cornish coastline. The two teams; The Great Eggsplorers and Team Eggstreme, will race along the North and South coast to the Land's End finish line.

As part of the South Coast section with Team Eggstreme, Falmouth will see the world record attempt head through Pendennis Point on the 5th of July. You can see the full schedule below.

As per the rules, the two spoons will hold a fresh, uncooked, St Ewe Free-range hen's egg. The carrier of the egg and spoon will lead the teams across the rugged coastal path, with handover points where local businesses will be hosting foodie pop-ups, and the public are encouraged to come along to 'egg-on' the teams.

The event has already had lots of encouragement and is being supported by high-profile chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Paul Ainsworth, and Adam Handling.

When talking about the challenge, Paul Ainsworth said: "One of the things I love about being in Cornwall is the great sense of community here. And this fundraising event by St Ewe Eggs is a great example of that Cornish spirit.

"They've chosen two charities that are close to my heart. Hospitality Action looks after people in the industry I love, who have fallen on hard times; and the team at Cornwall Air Ambulance, for whom my wife Emma and I are proud Ambassadors, bring lifesaving medical support to visitors and locals in times of great need. Both charities are self-funded and rely on our donations. I couldn't support what St Ewe are doing more, so urge people to donate if they can – even £1 will help!"

If The Great Cornish Egg and Spoon Race is awarded a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title, the presentation ceremony will be held at Rock Oyster Festival on Sunday 30th July 2023.
