'The Lionesses', a team from Falmouth are gearing up for a Coast to Coast challenge for charity.

On Sunday 25th July 2021, Samantha Evans and Louise Jones will be walking the South West Coast 2 Coast 50km in one day, walking for the MS Society UK.

The South West Coast to Coast is from Minehead, Somerset on the south bank of the Bristol Channel, down to seaside Dawlish on the southern coast of Devon, through Exmoor and the Exe Valley in-between - they will be doing half distance walk.

In preparation, they are walking parts of the South West Coast Path around the beautiful Helford River, Falmouth, St Mawes, The Roseland and The Bissoe Mining Trail.

Samantha's niece, Naomi, was diagnosed with RRMS (Remitting, Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis) in her 20's, the reason why they will be fundraising for MS Society UK.

Samantha and Louise told the full story, they said:

"In 2013 Samantha's niece Naomi, who was 23 years old at the time, had been out for the day with her family on the beach. A few days later she noticed her eye was irritated by what she could only describe as maybe a bit of sand stuck on her eyeball.

"Having had many visits to doctors, hospitals, consultants and one morning waking up blind in her left eye, she was diagnosed with Optic Neuritis. Optic Neuritis is a condition that is a common symptom of MS after diagnosis. A CT scan showed no signs of MS it was merely noted as a possible genetic problem.

"The following years ahead Naomi's physical and mental health suffered and spiralled. It was as though her body and mind was telling her something was seriously wrong.

"No amount of tests, consultants or organisations could diagnose what was causing these symptoms - it seemed it was all in her head and for a long time she kept quiet about other symptoms which had developed over time.

"Thankfully, with her new GP, Naomi decided enough was enough and another CT scan was requested. This confirmed, along with another eleven symptoms, Naomi was and had been for many years showing signs of MS."
