A Falmouth artist is welcoming submissions for a community aquarium.
An individual of any age or ability, either solo or as part of a family or group creates an underwater creature by whatever means they like.
Once complete they then post it on the Facebook group page for all to admire.
There have been roughly 60 submissions so far and that number is still rising.
The final goal is to produce one final image by taking all the creations people have submitted and placing them into an underwater environment which I will be illustrating.
The brains behind the project Adam Blakemore told Nub News:
"As a Falmouth based artist, I've met and worked with many other creatives over the years and ran collaborative workshops with a close friend and fellow artist.
"I've been wanting to do something similar online for a while so decided now was a great time to get started. I wanted something which was essentially limitless in numbers and imagination and that's when I came up with the idea of the aquarium.
"So far we've had drawings, paintings, digital creations and sculptures made from household objects to name a few. Once complete they then post it on the group page for all to admire.
"I'll then possibly make it available in various forms such as art prints and T-shirts with a portion of any profits going to a local cause. As it stands there is no closing date for submissions but I'd say it will continue for at least another month or two. It really depends on how quickly the community fills it up and when I feel we've reached the optimum number for the final piece.
There is also an online 'living' aquarium which you can find on the Facebook group page by clicking here.
To create this Adam will be bringing each creature to life with a short animation before handing it over to Nick who offered to turn the aquarium into a video. Nick drops it in the water with everyone else's and adds some additional effects and sound before the video gets uploaded to Facebook for all to see.
Adam added:
"We're both having a lot of fun putting it together and it's great to see the tank fill up with everyone's weird and wonderful creatures. When things get back to normal it would be great to have this shown somewhere like the Maritime Museum for a larger audience to enjoy.
"Many adults and children are having to spend most of their time at home at the moment and are looking for activities to fill up their day. By creating the community aquarium I thought I'd not only be giving them a fun little creative project to do at home I'd also be giving them the opportunity to be a part of something bigger.
"My mother also made a great suggestion for people to stick their sea creatures in their windows and build their very own window aquarium. A few people have started doing this which I hope will put a smile on the faces of anyone passing by."
Adam doesn't intend to stop with the aquarium, he also has plans to create other community pieces. He said:
"The project is currently only allowing one submission per person so that everyone has an equal share in the finished piece but I'm finding that people are keen to do more. I'm planning on expanding the idea to cover different themes such as a community tree which will get filled with birds and a community garden to fill with flowers."
