As Nub News reported last week, a local running team from Falmouth was preparing to take on the Classic Quarter Trail Run to raise awareness for men's mental health.

The target for the fundraiser was originally £2,000, but the group has smashed that aim and is now hoping to reach £3,000. The money will go towards supporting The Campaign Against Living Miserably, a charity leading a movement against male suicide.

The run was in a relay format, with the participants covering between 9km and 13km each. The boys finished in 9 hours and 15 minutes, and the girls completing the trail in 10 hours and 50 minutes.

Dawn Jones, told Falmouth Nub News: "The first two Laura and Dave started the race down at the lizard, that was at about 7:45 am, so we all headed down to church cove to watch them come in. The second two – Ross and Ruth, set off at different times because the boys were ahead of us.

"It was quite cold and windy in the morning and then slowly the sun started to come out, for the third leg, the weather warmed up considerably, and the third leg runners were really quick - they did eleven miles in an hour and forty-five with the women finishing in just over two hours.

"Our last leg which was me and my husband, he waited to finish the last leg with me, the boys finished earlier but he waited with me till Angela came in and we ran the last leg together – it was amazing."

"We got lots of people commenting on our shirts and saying what a fabulous charity it was to run for, and they were just thanking us really for spreading the awareness, it was really good."

Despite the hard training, the group is expected to run again next year, Dawn added: "The run was pretty hard, I think the elevation was about 1,900 feet or something like that, it is up and down.

"I think the training we did, I think if we did not do it we would not have been able to complete it. We are all crazy because we have agreed to do it again next year but probably as pairs so instead of doing one leg I think we are going to go for two legs."

Finishing the race alongside Dawn and her husband was the pub mascot, Dotty Dog, who completed the last 500 metres sporting the CALM logo on her cape.
