Swimmer treated for hypothermia after getting into difficulty at Maenporth Beach

This morning, a swimmer was treated for hypothermia after getting into difficulty at Maenporth Beach.
Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at around 9:30am to assist South Western Ambulance Service with a report of a person in the water.
Also assisting were, Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team, duty Senior Coastal Operations Officer SIIE, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R924, Falmouth Lifeboat and further Ambulance resources.
"On scene, the person had self recovered and was receiving treatment for hypothermia. The casualty was later transported to Treliske Hospital for further care," Falmouth Coastguard said.
It was apparent that the casualty, who was an experienced sea swimmer, had got into difficulty while caught in a rip current just off the rocks to the south side of Maenporth.
Falmouth Coastguard added:
"Remember, if you see someone in danger on the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, our Coastguard Operations Centre staff are available to take your call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are able to get the appropriate resources to scene without delay."
