Falmouth Town Council's planning committee gave their support for plans to redevelop Hooked on the Rocks - after previous applications were rejected.

Revised plans were put forward at a committee meeting this week (25th) by agent Ben Widdicombe.

The development involves the demolition of the single-storey building on Swanpool Road and replacing it with a two-storey building consisting of a new restaurant and apartment.

Planning permission was refused in 2021 - whilst the Town Council was happy with the redevelopment of the restaurant there were concerns about the design.

The new application overcomes the reason for refusal - with a more appropriate addition to the street scene and a better contribution to the character of the area.

Mr Widdicombe said the new plans were "less bold" than what the committee had seen last year.

Councillor Spargo voiced concerns that the designs didn't look as good as they did in the pre-application.

"The pre-app was really good and now they've regressed. It has become a bit mediocre," Cllr Spargo added.

Councillor Eva said the plans were a "vast improvement" from 12 months ago, he added:

"We could carry on turning it down but I think the applicant has done a lot of work to make it a lot better than it was. You only have to go across the road to see the monstrosity over there. This fits in a lot better than the other one. I'm quite happy to support it."

However, councillors recommended approval of the application with a condition that the alcove on the footpath is reinstated.

The application will now go to Cornwall Council for a final decision.
