Storm Dennis is approaching: How is Falmouth coping?

Storm Ciara has swiftly moved on leaving a disgruntled Falmouth in her wake. Storm Dennis is now right behind and, by all accounts, promising to be bigger and meaner.

According to the Met Office, the rain and wind is meant to hit its peak on Saturday at midday and carry on right until the end of Sunday.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the weekend and it's strongly advised to stay away from the coast and keep travel to a minimum.

Winds are due to reach 60mph and the Met Office is warning businesses that there is a high chance of flooding which could cause significant damage to buildings.

Nub News spoke to the people of Falmouth to see how they will be preparing and spending Storm Dennis.

Angie of Four-Teas Tea Room and Event Space said:

"We won't let a little bit of wind & rain keep us from serving the good people of Falmouth and beyond.

"We have always got homemade soup on to take away the chill. We may not have the doors wide open because of the wind but we are there, honestly!"

Katy of MINE Restaurant said:

"The storm hasn't affected our bookings, especially with Valentine's Day coming up, I think people are keen to head out.

"It might affect our menu though, if the bad weather continues there will be no fresh mackerel for our mackerel tartare starter. We're looking at experimenting with an octopus dish instead as we've heard there is some bi-catch around."

It looks like some public transport may be disrupted too with a spokesperson for St Mawes Ferry stating:

"The weather forecast is indicating strong storm-force winds and adverse sea conditions from Storm Dennis. Although no sailings have been cancelled at this time, there may be some disruption to sailings on the St Mawes Ferry for the duration of the day.

"Passengers are advised to travel on an alternative day or check before travelling."
