The Fitness Wild team will be cycling from Fitness Wild Farnham all the way back to Fitness Wild HQ in Falmouth.

This will be a 270+ mile trip over 4 days raising money for the Mermaid Centre.

The Mermaid Centre is a purpose-built diagnostic facility at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

Trainers from Fitness Wild Falmouth, Jimmy Ray, Josh Parkin and Ben Glazzard will all be taking on the huge cycle ride.

Jimmy Ray, told Nub News:

"We launched the site in Farnham last March, we thought it would be a good fundraiser to try and cycle as a fitness challenge from one location to the other, that was about a year ago."

"We sort of joked about it and put it on the back burner and now it has got to the point where we have got to do it.

"The reason we chose The Mermaid Centre as the catalyst to get it going is that one of our clients (Emily) trained with us while going through heavy chemotherapy for breast cancer. Her story is quite amazing.

"She was training with us when she was diagnosed and she sung the praises of The Mermaid Centre as soon as she was diagnosed.

"We thought what a local, lovely place to raise money for and because Emily is close to us, because our team have all had experiences facing cancer in our lives.

"We are all tied in some way, and we can make use of the things we have got, we can make this a fitness challenge and hopefully raise a lot of money for a good cause that is local to Cornwall.

"None of us are actually cyclists, the most we have cycled previously is 1 or 2 miles but now we will be pushing ourselves 80 miles a day for three days."

The group has just started their training ahead of the big ride on August 20th.

The fundraiser has only been live for a few weeks but £365 has already been raised.

Emily Brand trained with Fitness Wild whilst she had cancer, Emily told Nub News:

"I have trained with Fitness Wild for the last two or three years, last year I wasn't very well and I had cancer which took me about a year to recover from but I stayed with Fitness Wild and trained with them throughout it all which kind of led onto them doing the bike ride and picking The Mermaid Centre as the charity.

"I am not riding but I will be doing the logistics, setting up the tents and feeding them.

"The Mermaid Centre was massively important in my recovery, the nurses and the surgeons, all the oncology team they all stem from the centre. It is almost like a private clinic with the treatment you get, a lot of one to one time and it is just amazing."

The Fitness Wild team is encouraging people to join in with the ride at different stages if you would like to cycle with the team, run behind or just show up to support you can contact them via their Facebook page.
