Community radio station Source FM and the Falmouth University Journalism course have teamed up to bring residents a daily feel-good news show.

The show was put together to highlight the positive efforts that the community in Falmouth and Penryn are undertaking to help cope with the pandemic.

Journalism lecturer Kevin Bishop brought together a team of students, with Kevin acting as newsgathering editor, and Ivor Richards as the technical lead.

Kevin Bishop told Nub News:

"I think it is really important that the local radio is an important part of our lives these days, I think it is times like this that we realise the importance of community radio because it is there in everybody's house and it is a source of community information and support.

"You can go to the TV to find out what is happening on a national scale, what the community radio station can do is tell you what is happening down your street and in our case and the case of this daily radio program we want to highlight some of the positives that are coming out of this.

"Our students have suddenly had their interaction with the university changed dramatically from being here in Falmouth on campus seeing us every day to being at home in their bedrooms scattered around the country.

"This project gives them a chance to continue doing the journalism they have been doing down here and they are getting to speak to a lot of people in the community that they might not have spoken to before about a lot of the good work that is going on."

The show is broadcast at 8am and repeated at 1pm with a compilation at the weekend.

Chiara Muzzi, Station Development Manager at Source FM, added:

"This was a response by Source FM on ways we could actually communicate to the community. This is a new beginning of a collaboration with Falmouth University journalism which we hope will go into the future, and keep providing news for the community."
