New social distancing measures are to be introduced this week on buses in Falmouth and beyond following the latest Government guidance on public transport.

You can read the latest Government guidelines here.

A spokesperson for First Bus said:

"We recognise the importance buses play in our customers' lives, not least in making sure that those who need to make essential journeys, like health service and emergency workers, can continue to do so.

"This is a dynamic and fast-moving situation. We are working with Government, local authorities and partners to reassess demand for our services in the light of the latest advice.

"Whilst doing our utmost to maintain services for our customers, we do expect to have to make changes to our timetables as the situation evolves."

First Bus is finalising social distancing plans and will be introducing safe capacities across the fleet following the Government's publication of its 'safer transport' guidance.

These measures are set to be introduced this week across the buses to ensure the safety of workers and customers during Coronavirus.

The measures that will be in place are:

- Customers are being asked to wear masks or cover their faces with something if possible.

-Payment will now be taken via contactless as an alternative to cash if that option is possible.

- Social distancing will be used on the seating, some seats will be covered and customers will be asked to sit further apart.

- Now the capacity per bus will be 50% and if the capacity exceeds that the driver will suggest that the customer catches another bus.

First Bus added:

"Thank you so much for your ongoing support, which is essential as we work together to maintain safe travel across our networks."

This afternoon, Cornwall by Kernow U Lines said on social media:

"We continue to follow Government advice for transport operators. We are in the process of introducing measures to allow social distancing on our buses and across our bus stations. Thank you for your continued support."
