A Cornwall Councillor has announced on social media that Cornwall's Waste and Recycling Centres will be opening on Tuesday next week (19th).

The only sites that will reportedly not be opening are Tintagel, Dudnance Lane and Saltash.

The social media post, which has a lot of residents in confusion, goes into detail the new ways in which the council will monitor the number of people using the Centres at once.

Describing the claimed new measures to visit the centres, Councillor Andrew Wallis stated:

"If the last digit of your number plate is ODD - 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 - then you may only visit an HWRC on an ODD date of the month, e.g. 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, or 29 May etc.

"If the last digit of your vehicle number plate is an EVEN number – 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 - then you may only visit an HWRC on an EVEN date of the month, e.g. 20, 22, 24, 26 May etc."

Many residents have been left confused by the system, with one resident writing:

"Is this system a joke? There's going to be some very confused and angry people, especially if they don't realise about the system until they get there. Not very well thought out."

Another resident stated:

"Some people won't know this and be turn away thus causing more conflict and aggravation with staff."

The Councillor also explained how there has been a difficulty in reopening the Centres.

"Unfortunately, reopening the HWRCs is not as simple as just unlocking the gates and it has to be done in such a way that protects the safety and wellbeing of staff and the public," he wrote.

Mr Wallis stressed that the Centres should only be for essential waste and recycling, stating:

"They are opening HWRCs for essential use only. This means using an HWRC only for general rubbish (black bag waste or bulky items) and garden waste that cannot be stored safely at home without risk of injury or harm to health."

Nub News has contacted Cornwall Council for an official comment and they've said we will receive one later today.
