Surfers came to the rescue of a group of people who got caught up in a rip current at Maenporth Beach this afternoon.

Falmouth Coastguard and the RNLI were called at just after 1:20pm, Tuesday 22nd.

Four people had been caught in strong waters, luckily local surfers were on hand to rescue them.

The coastguard team was stood down shortly after arriving on the scene.

A Falmouth Coastguard spokesperson added:

"If you spot someone in danger or are in danger yourself. Call 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD, any delay from calling the wrong service can make all the difference."
