Yesterday (9th of May) a barge, called Bibby Stockholm, arrived in Falmouth to be inspected and refitted before heading to Dorset where it will hold up to 500 migrants whilst their asylum claims are processed.

The plans have been heavily criticised and now a group named Cornwall Resists has organised a protest to say that "No one is illegal" and to "say no to border violence". They will be asking people to meet at 6 pm tonight (10th May) in the Bar Road car park.

Cornwall Resists is a coalition of radical groups in Cornwall that emerged from Resist G7. The group says they resist oppression in all forms in Cornwall and Beyond.

Taking to social media yesterday to share the news of the protests the group shared a strong message, they said: " Today in Falmouth, the "Bibby Stockholm" arrived to be refitted. It is a 500-capacity barge, which is set to become one of the UK's "prison ships" - utilised by the UK's racist border force, for the purposes of detaining and imprisoning refugees and asylum seekers.

"A&P Falmouth are in charge of its inspection and refit so that it's prepped and ready to go ahead and carry out human rights violations at the hands of the British government, using taxpayers money.

"People who have fled their homes in search of safety deserve our compassion, dignity, and respect. They do not deserve to be scapegoated, detained by the state, and treated as less than human, whilst the rich in parliament profit from the very wars from which people arriving on our shores were displaced.

"Not on our watch! Cornwall Resists, along with others, are calling an emergency demonstration. We stand in solidarity with refugees - and we always will. Whether it's fascists targeting hotels housing people in Newquay, or A&P fitting prison ships in Falmouth - Cornwall rejects complicity in border violence and racist agendas.

"Tomorrow - Wednesday, 6 pm, 10th May at the entrance to the docks in Falmouth. We come together tomorrow, in solidarity. Bring your banners, placards, and chants."
