The Falmouth Town Team partnership had the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister, as part of his visit to Cornwall this week.

Having assisted in the coordination of the Falmouth leg of Boris Johnson's trip, Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID Manager and Richard Gates, Falmouth Town Manager who head up the Town Team and Cherilyn Mackrory MP for Falmouth and Truro were joined by local colleagues at the productive session.

Commenting on the visit, Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID Manager said:

"The session was a really valuable opportunity for us as a Team, to discuss directly with the Prime Minister, the most pertinent and pressing topics of the day.

"We know that Cornwall is an incredible place, one that continues to forge ahead with innovative plans and ideas, and it was important that this was conveyed at the meeting.

"Furthermore, existing and emerging growth sectors were highlighted, as well as the need for continued focus and investment in the County's infrastructure and workforce. We look forward to following up on some of the productive discussion strands with Government and its key partners in the near future."

Support for small businesses, investment for town centres like Falmouth and the need for greater representation from Cornwall on the UK High Streets Task Force, the visitor economy, Great South West campaign, the maritime sector and strategies for retaining Cornwall's talent, were some of the topics of discussion in what proved to be a wide-ranging meeting.

The Town Team also presented the Prime Minister with a portfolio of projects that have been delivered in Falmouth that include – the regional leadership role the Team play in the South West in respect of place and high streets, the COVID response and recovery planning efforts, the 12-month economic vitality plan, the county-leading festivals programme and well-regarded partnership work.

MP for Falmouth, Cherilyn Mackrory, added:

"I was so pleased to bring the Prime Minister to Falmouth to show off our fantastic, thriving coastal town. We are so lucky to have such a great team in Falmouth, working tirelessly to make the town the best possible place to live, work and grow up in.

"I raised with the Prime Minister the need for a legacy in Falmouth, post-G7, and discussed our ambition for a blue growth plan that really realises our economic and maritime ambition. This would have huge benefits throughout Falmouth and I look forward to continuing to work with the Falmouth Town Team, and the Prime Minister, to ensure Falmouth gets the attention and support it needs."
