The company behind the recently constructed Starbucks at Asda Penryn has withdrawn plans to build a second drive-thru on the site.

The new Starbucks drive-thru coffee shop opened last year.

An application submitted by RPS Group Limited on behalf of Euro Garages Limited (the applicant) outlined plans to build a single-storey building for mixed restaurant and hot food takeaway use in the western section of the car park, incorporating a dedicated drive-thru facility. The restaurant would've catered for sit-down diners, takeaway food, and delivery meals.

However, the application was withdrawn this week (6th).

No reasons were given for the withdrawal but there had been concerns over queuing traffic, loss of parking spaces (from 442 to 393), and drainage.

A comment from the Highway Development Management reads: "I am unable to support to the layout of the proposed drive-thru and I do not consider safe and suitable access has been demonstrated. At present, I object to this application considering it contrary to Policy 27 of the Cornwall Local Plan."

It is unclear whether the applicant will return with a revised application.
