Work is set to begin on the land behind St Georges Arcade, with 8 apartments to be built on the demolished site.

The application for this site was already decided on in 2017 and the operation is seen to have started within 3 years of the decision notice.

The plans will see 8 studio apartments built, with a certificate of lawfulness being granted, essentially meaning the work can go ahead without needing a proper planning hearing.

Demolition of the building and commencement of the development took place in 2019 and was completed in February 2020.

In a concluding statement, Cornwall Council said:

"Based upon the evidence submitted by the applicant and the evidence in the possession of the Local Planning Authority, on the balance of probability, the Council is satisfied that development has materially commenced in connection with Planning Decision Notice and the permission is therefore considered to be extant."
