Two Penryn residents who have organised a Cornwall wide sing-along were shocked to see they had gained over one thousand supporters overnight.

Shelley Peters and Rachel Gerred-Hart created the Voices Of The Borough page to bring people together all over Cornwall to sing a song in unison after taking part in the Clap For Carers celebrations.

The chosen song of choice is Harry Glasson's 'Cornwall My Home', a fitting Cornish ballad about the love of Cornwall and all its beauty.

The united sing-along is to celebrate all of Cornwall's strength during the coronavirus and show community love during these difficult and uncertain times.

The page is rapidly growing every minute and has nearly reached 2000 supporters, with it only sitting on 500 yesterday evening.

Shelley Peters told Nub News:

"I was blown away, I posted last night to try and get to one thousand before Thursday and it happened overnight.

"I am very humbled by the overwhelming response to what was a little idea to show solidarity in our community, that is now global."

The singing will take place straight after the Clap For Carers celebrations on Thursday, a live stream of the song will be being played on the page to sing along to.

Shelley and Rachel are urging people to connect Bluetooth speakers to the stream to be as loud and proud as possible.

Rachel Gerred-Hart said:

"It's brilliant. I purposely didn't sign up to an online platform like other 'choir' groups have as the purpose is to hear voices over the rooftops.

"To not just listen to each other but actually hear each other.

"To hear each other so those alone know that actually they are not alone. We hear you."

Cornwall Radio stations have been contacted to get involved with the sing-along too, with residents suggesting that they play the song on air to get it further spread around.
