Two Penryn residents have organised a Cornwall wide sing-along to celebrate everyone's strength during the coronavirus.

Through the power of social media, Shelley Peters and Rachel Gerred-Hart have organised people all over Cornwall to sing a song together straight after taking part in the Clap For Carers celebrations.

Shelley Peters told Nub News:

"We wanted unity. We didn't want different streets singing different songs.

"This is about celebrating everyone in Cornwall, from the key workers to the children behaving well at home, we are all in this together, shoulder to shoulder."

A poll was made on Rachel's Penryn Legends Facebook page as to which song would be best to sing and 'Cornwall My Home' written by Harry Glasson and later performed by The Countrymen, was the most popular choice.

There has already been a huge response of people wanting to take part from all over Cornwall after just creating the Voices Of The Borough page yesterday.

A Cornish resident currently in Australia has even said she'll be singing along.

A live stream of the song will be put on to the page so people have an indication of when to start.

'Cornwall My Home' written by Harry Glasson:

'I've stood on Cape Cornwall in the sun's evening glow,

'On Chywoone Hill at Newlyn to watch the fishing fleets go,

'Watched the sheave wheels at Geevor as they spun around,

'And heard the men singing as they go underground,

'And no one will ever move me from this land,

'Until the Lord calls me to sit at his hand,

'For this is my Eden, and I'm not alone,

'For this is my Cornwall and this is my home,

'I've left childish footsteps in the soft Sennen sand,

'I've chased the maids there, all giggly and tanned,

'I've stood on the cliff top in a westerly blow,

'And heard the wave thunder on the rocks far below,

Chorus

'First thing in the morning, on Chapel Carn Brea,

'To gaze at the Scillies in the blue far away,

'For this is my Cornwall, and I'll tell you why,

'Because I was born here and here I shall die.'
