A Penryn College student has been selected to be a part of the Falmouth-based Young People's News Hub for the G7 summit in Cornwall this June.

Year 7 pupil, Jasmine, will be a member of a team of young reporters who will produce stories related to the G7 summit at Carbis Bay (11th-13th June).

Carbis Bay is where seven of the world's leaders will meet for vital talks on the global climate crisis.

Based at Falmouth University's Newsroom, Woodlane, she will learn new journalism-based skills over the three days, and has already taken part in one of two training sessions in preparation for the summit.

Reflecting on her selection for the News Hub, Jasmine said:

"I decided to apply for the News Hub after my English teacher, Mrs Adams, set us some optional homework to enter an application. I was

so happy when I found out that I had been selected.

"For the application, I had to write a paragraph explaining what I wanted to gain from the experience and what excited me most about being a part of the News Hub.

"My mum also wrote a paragraph to help support my application," Jasmine added.

Funded by Cornwall Council, the Young People's News Hub is run by The Writers' Block - a creative writing centre based in Redruth that works with children, adults, schools, and families to develop confidence and skills in writing.
