Penryn-based charity Sea Sanctuary launches free day sails for Cornish key worker heroes
There has been one group of people who, without their selfless efforts, many of us would have found the last few months of the coronavirus pandemic even more difficult—our wonderful key workers.
Penryn-based mental health charity, Sea Sanctuary, is in total admiration and incredibly grateful to all key workers for their selflessness, dedication, and hard work and would like to give them something back.
To show gratitude to the Cornish key worker heroes, Sea Sanctuary are offering free day sails onboard their beautiful yacht Winter, sailing the beautiful Cornish the coastline and exploring the waterways around the Carrick Roads.
Sailors will be at one with the sea, enjoying the space, the sea salt scented breeze and the sensory awareness of being at sea.
Along with lunch, afternoon tea, and help sail the boat, the Sea Sanctuary crew will share some positive mental wellbeing tips and allow our guests the time to relax and enjoy the great outdoors.
If you know a key worker in Cornwall that you think is deserving of one of the spots onboard Winter for a day sail, you can submit a nomination online by visiting this website.
Nominations are open for NHS staff, Care workers, Emergency service workers and key workers. The closing date is Sunday 23rd August 2020, with nominees announced on Friday 31st August 2020.
Sails will take place throughout September 2020.
Joe Sabien, CEO and founder of Sea Sanctuary, said:
"As we move out of lockdown, we recognise that for some, the experience has been absolutely exhausting. On this occasion, we are referring to the people who have been working tirelessly in our Cornish community to keep us safe; to help us, deliver essential supplies and work throughout the night.
"Whether this relates to volunteer police officers or regular police officers, postal workers, fire personnel, nurses, delivery drivers, medics, pharmacists or people working in shops, we want to reward some of them.
"We do recognise that we can't reward everyone, it would take a lifetime! But we can reward a few and we now ask YOU to help us to achieve this aim.
"Sea Sanctuary will provide a day sailing on our beautiful yacht, Winter, and we want to share this experience with some of the people YOU nominate'
Sea Sanctuary believes the 'environment is the key to recovery' and delivers most of its activities around the natural marine environment while helping people towards healthier life choices.
The charity has years of success in combining evidence-based therapies with marine-based activities to provide an invigorating sense of adventure along with the help and support people require to build and sustain emotional resilience and an improved level of wellbeing.
