A recent finalist in the Cornwall Tourism Awards, Via Ferrata Cornwall near Penryn, is gearing up to become the go-to outdoor adventure centre with a range of new activities for the 2021 season.

The enhanced offering will provide a vital wellbeing resource for the people of Cornwall as well as all profits going to support young people in need.

The 60-acre site, which opened last summer providing the ultimate high-wire and climbing route around a disused granite quarry, is set to broaden its offering to include kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddleboarding as well as coasteering and archery, nature trails and wild play for kids aged three years and above.

"We all know the importance for both our physical and mental wellbeing of getting outdoors and exercising and we're expecting a huge demand for wild adventures when the latest lockdown eases," said Marketing & Events Manager, Eleanor Devenish.

"Now more than ever it's so important to switch off and escape the day to day and there's no better way than to push our limits and take on new challenges.

"As well as the Via Ferrata experience, new activities and café, we're hoping to be able to open in time to run a club over the Easter holidays with adventure activities for 6–13-year-olds," she continues.

"This will be a great way for parents who've been homeschooling to have a break."

Via Ferrata Cornwall is the first of its kind in the south of England and only the third in the UK, although the phenomenon is growing in popularity around the globe.

Visitors traverse cliff faces, climb iron ladders, cross a high wire bridge and zip back down to ground level, enjoying views out over Falmouth Bay and the Lizard peninsula.

Launched last summer by BF Adventure, which supports Cornwall's most vulnerable children, Via Ferrata Cornwall was created to generate desperately needed funds to meet the rising demand for their services.

All profits from Via Ferrata Cornwall are being channelled straight back into BF Adventure, with 60 - 80 disadvantaged young people a week currently supported by the charity's programmes.

As well as providing an adventure outlet for locals and holidaymakers, Via Ferrata has plans to accommodate team away days, outward bound trips for local schools and special events for youth group organisations from the Scouts to surf lifesaving clubs.
