Last week was the grand opening for the new Spiralis Plants shop on Killigrew Street.

Spiralis Plants is usually based at the market on The Moor but now has a permanent home full to the brim with tropical and exotic plants, terrariums, and everything you need to grow and care for them.

Kelly Crawford has been trading at the market for 2 1/2 years building up the business and has now moved into the new premises - still trading at The Moor on Saturdays and the shop will be open.

Speaking to Nub News on the second day of trading, Kelly said:

"It is just nice to have a proper base for the business and the plants. I have been working in horticulture for 8 years now, studying at Sparsholt College, working at The Eden Project and local garden centres, working with indoor plants, and then started working for myself."

The shop is full of different plants, tall, short, twisted, so many colours, so where do they all come from?

"Most of them come from Europe but we have some more specialist ones coming from South America that will be incorporated into the shop, some of them are homegrown but mostly from Europe."

And the opening week, how has that gone?

"Really good, I was a bit nervous that nobody would turn up and we had a really good response. We have had people saying they have never seen so many plants before, people are quite awestruck when they walk in."

The shop is open Tuesday - Sunday 10:30am-5:30pm and 10am-4pm, excluding Monday and Wednesdays.
