New outlet for second-hand Falmouth School uniform
A Falmouth sports shop has launched a new scheme in partnership with a local charity to help parents kit out their children for school.
Castle Sports, based on Killigrew Street links up with mental health charity Georgia's Voice in an innovative new scheme at a time when there is an ever-increasing pressure on household budgets.
Whilst many of the local primary schools offer second-hand uniforms through their Parent Teacher Association (PTA), there has never been a nominated outlet for second-hand Falmouth School uniform.
Castle Sports approached local mental health charity Georgia's Voice to see if they would set up a rail for second-hand uniform in their new Pre-Loved Boutique in Killigrew Street.
Sophie Alway, who founded Georgia's Voice in memory of her daughter Georgia Gallaway who sadly took her own life following a battle with her mental health, was keen to join forces with Castle Sports to promote the sale of second-hand uniform in their shop.
Sophie said:
"The success of the initiative will rely on parents donating their out-grown uniform to our shop in Killigrew Street so that it can be made available for sale to those who need it. All the money raised from the sale of uniform will be put towards providing support for young people who are experiencing problems with their mental health."
Cath Horton and Teresa McCormack, the owners of Castle Sports & Uniform, have been keen to establish an outlet for second-hand uniform for some time.
Cath added:
"There are huge social and environmental benefits of recycling school uniform. We're conscious of how quickly children grow out of their uniform and it can be costly for parents to replace.
"The uniform that we sell is excellent quality and there is usually plenty of life left in it once it has been outgrown, so it makes sense to make it available to those who perhaps can't afford to buy new all the time.
"It also helps to reduce the amount of waste unnecessarily going to landfill and will raise vital funds for a local charity that actively supports young people in our local community."
Castle Sports has also nominated Georgia's Voice as its Charity of the Year and will be raising funds for them throughout the year, as well as donating all the proceeds generated in-store from the government carrier bag charge.
Donations of second-hand Falmouth School uniform can be dropped off at either Castle Sports or Georgia's Voice Pre-Loved Boutique, both of which are at the bottom of Killigrew Street, opposite Tesco. All donations should be clean and in a good, re-saleable condition.
