New luxury care home in Falmouth welcomes first residents

By Joseph Macey 10th Feb 2022

Falmouth Court has welcomed its first residents – the town's newest luxury care home.

Built on the site of the former Four Winds pub on Dracaena Avenue, Falmouth Court is the latest Barchester Healthcare home offering a welcoming environment for residential, dementia, and respite care - all within a stunning setting.

Construction began on the site in 2019 – it features spa bathrooms, a cinema room, hair and beauty salon, a café, landscaped gardens.

There are 66 rooms in total, residents can personalise their room with their own belongings – making them feel right at home. Each resident's care is also tailored to them with individual care plans.

The care home team ensures a variety of choice – with a wide range of events and activities, plus three hot or cold meals a day.

There is an exciting entertainments and live events schedule. Daytrips can also be organised via the care home's activities team.

Nub News was invited on a tour of the impressive new care home by Home Services Advisor Hugh Dickinson, who said:

"Welcoming our first guest was a fantastic feeling. We have all been waiting for so long.

"The team all started working at the start of December, they have been going through training and induction in preparation for this point.

"There are a few little things still to be done on the building, but we are open and welcoming our first residents. We have a huge list of people waiting to move in, alongside loads more enquiries and visits booked in.

"The home has loads of unique features, our spa bathrooms, hair salon, activities room, our beautiful lounges - other homes just don't have these extra facilities. We have a minibus to take trips out as well. A huge aspect is the food side of things – it is fine dining done to a really high standard."

General Manager Haley Reeve Larson told Nub News:

"It was obviously quite delayed because covid – that was a huge challenge. However, recruitment has gone very well, and we are finally open. I believe the home and dedicated dementia care is something Falmouth and Cornwall has needed for a long time. We are really pleased to be part of the journey – and look forward to welcoming more residents."

Outside of the home, Falmouth Court is also aiming to create links within the community, working with Dementia UK, Stroke Association, local choir groups. They soon hope to run an offer of complimentary breakfast for members of the emergency services.

Hugh added:

"That'll be open to all the emergency services just as a thank you for their work during the pandemic.

"It has been repeated at other sites, it's a great initiative to get everyone familiar with each other, find out about what we do, and give something back, we hope to be able to offer this in the coming months.

"At Falmouth Court, we don't just want people to come here and exist. We want to enrich people's lives. When the residents first move in, the team helps them to fill out a 'getting to know you' book to find out all about their life history, their family, their career.

"All the care is person-centred – it is not just one size fits all. It is about caring for each person individually. We want people to come in here and live the best life they can."
