The Bibby Stockholm vessel has been docked in Falmouth since 9 May while it's being refurbished, when completed the barge will be moved to Portland Port in Dorset where it will house around 500 single adult males whilst their asylum claims are processed.
The arrival of the barge has seen many protests, the group Cornwall Resists has been behind most of these and even organised a Public meeting and sourced crowdfunding.
It's now being reported in the media that the barge will not leave Falmouth until July despite the Home Secretary Suella Braverman telling the Commons on 5 June that it would be in Portland "Within a fortnight". It is still not completely clear when the barge will leave Cornwall.
It is also now being reported that David Harris, a town council leader in the Dorset area, has called for the plans to be scrapped and stated in a letter to the Home Officer that there hasn't been enough consultation on the plans.
With the plans under constant scrutiny, the delays will only add more pressure on the government and its controversial plans.
Cornwall Resists has taken to social media once again to announce a second public meeting at The Cornish Bank tomorrow (28 May), however, in the post they claim this is to prepare for the barge leaving Falmouth on Friday 30 June.
The group plans to use the meeting to discuss what action to take but also hinted that it would be to stop the Bibby sailing, Cornwall Resists said: "Now is the time for us to rally together and resist. We cannot allow Bibby Stockholm to continue to its final destination.
"We cannot let the resistance dwindle at this critical moment. We must come together on Friday and do all that we can to prevent 500 men seeking freedom and safety from being imprisoned aboard this atrocity."
