Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (FHC), the body responsible for managing Falmouth Harbour recently revealed the town could soon have its first restaurant on the water.

The restaurant is planned to be situated in the North Quay area of the harbour, to the west of Custom House Quay.

La Peniche Cafe and Bistro is expected to open in June 2020, if the planning application is successful.

Tony and Kate Elliott-Cannon are the owners behind the exciting project. Kate told Falmouth Nub News:

"Since living on a ship in the 1980's we have always yearned to give Falmouth a floating dining experience on a vintage vessel. Tony initially sought to utilise a mini cruise ship as a hotel ship. The idea brewed over time and the search for a smaller more realistic option began.

"Our interior design is mostly all about the view! There are 19 huge windows. However, if we had to describe our décor we would say it's a modern twist on an art deco theme after all Delta was built in 1938. The original inspiration for bar decoration began with a Clarice Cliffe piece of pottery."

The food will be a mix of English and French-inspired dishes from the boats Falmouth Breton links and from their trips to Paris, Chalon Sur Soane, Fonteinbleau, Saint Cloud and Poses.

Kate added:

"Out of season, we will be available for private events including small business Christmas meals and we will also host numerous special events including a Murder Mystery dining experience next Autumn.

"We have met many challenges along the way and we're not done yet! Our Facebook page @La Peniche Falmouth, Café & Bistro documents our story which may give better insight into our trials and tribulations.

"We have learned a lot along the way, met some interesting people and whilst at the moment we have aches on our aches from the physical work, we are absolutely loving it. Delta has great character and we hope she will become a beloved venue to all."
