Children's Hospice South West: Mawnan Smith community set for Heroes' Hike fundraiser

By Guest 16th Sep 2021

On Tuesday 22nd June Mawnan WI will be revealing their Heroes' Hike to raise vital funds for Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).

Members of WI, residents, and those who work in the village have been asked to make figures of key workers which will be displayed around Mawnan Smith.

The event is to acknowledge and say thank you for their hard work throughout the pandemic and importantly, at the same time this replaces their usual Garden Safari fundraising for CHSW. The figures will be on display from midday 22nd June to Sunday 4th July.

Sue Moxom from Mawnan WI who is coordinating this event said:

"We hope that everyone in our community will join us to help make Heroes' Hike as successful as possible. We already have 20 WI members and residents making figures and there will be collection boxes in the local shops for donations or people can donate online.

"As the only charity in the South West providing specialist care and respite support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, we're really pleased to be supporting Children's Hospice South West and its mission to make the most of short and precious lives."

It costs over £11million to run CHSW's three hospices in Cornwall (Little Harbour), Devon (Little Bridge House) and Somerset (Charlton Farm) and these costs are met almost entirely from voluntary donations. For more information on Heroes' Hike, please refer to Mawnan WI Facebook page or see posters in the village.
