Linden Homes response to Swanpool Beach waste leak
Linden Homes has issued an apology after an investigation was undertaken following images and videos shared of brown murky waste running into the sea at Swanpool Beach.
As it turns out the waste was coming from a pipe holding two years worth of mud, building waste and water which had been backed up.
The bung holding that altogether was mistakenly removed by Linden Homes causing it to flow out.
The pipe has been sealed back up and Linden Homes have confirmed that it will
be cleaned and inspected by South West Water - before the bung is ever removed again. The Environment Agency are investigating fully and will undertake any relevant prosecutions. A Linden Homes spokesperson added: "A bung was accidentally moved out of place for a short time during maintenance work by one of our contractors on Wednesday which allowed some muddy building sediment to wash into the surface water pipe. This was quickly dealt with by our contractors, who swiftly replaced the bung to prevent further egress. "We apologise that this accident took place and can reassure the local community that while the sediment may look unattractive, it is not harmful to the environment. We will ensure the debris is removed quickly and the beach is cleaned where necessary, while working closely with the Environment Agency to investigate the original incident to ensure it does not happen again."
