KLOTH celebrates after receiving £10,000 in National Lottery Community funding
KLOTH (Kernow Library of Things) based in Penryn, and also serving Falmouth and the surrounding areas, is celebrating after being awarded £10,000 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
KLOTH is an ongoing project, that provides access to items such as tents, power tools, garden tools, and kitchen gadgets in an affordable way. They are currently based at the Old Gentlemen's Hut in Penryn on Quay Hill.
Members of the community are able to borrow items for a small cost rather than buying an expensive item that may only be occasionally needed and take up valuable space in people's homes.
This new National Lottery funding will allow KLOTH to grow the project to ensure that it is accessible to the whole community. The organisers behind KLOTH said: "In the current economic climate, we are all having to think more carefully about how we live and how we spend. Being able to borrow rather than buy items empowers our community to improve our environment and community as well as learning new skills."
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Edwin Love, Director of KLOTH said: "Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can employ a part-time member of staff to increase our opening hours as well as promoting KLOTH further in the community, to ensure that local people are supported and empowered in their own community.
"This may be by borrowing a tent for a family holiday, borrowing tools to complete DIY projects to improve the home environment, or borrowing garden items to work with your neighbours to improve shared spaces. This will make a big difference to people's lives.
"KLOTH has up until now been entirely volunteer run so this will be a step change for us, although we are always looking for more volunteers to give just an hour or 2 of their time a week to help us eve our community"
KLOTH is currently open at these times:
- Monday - 10 am - 2:30 pm
- Thursday - 7 pm - 8:30 pm
- Saturday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
