A leading firm of Chartered Accountants in Cornwall – Hodgsons – has announced that its offices in Falmouth and Launceston will become separate entities from next year.

Managing Partner, James Hodgson, will retain the Hodgsons name and further develop the well-established company from its Falmouth office, while Partners, Peter Stevenson and Sarah Gay, will continue in Launceston and operate under a different name.

"The coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdowns have provided us all with opportunities to review what we do; adjust how we do things and reboot for the future, and Hodgsons is no exception," explains James.

"With changes in client behaviour and advances in technology, the time is right for us to reconfigure the business to best serve our clients' differing requirements by separating the Falmouth and Launceston offices on 30th April 2022."

While accounting services and audits are still an integral element, the modern accountancy practice offers so much more, from expertise

in tax planning for private individuals to corporate finance and business development, and it is these aspects that James has ambitious plans to develop from his Falmouth base, overlooking the Carrick Roads.

"It is an exciting time in our sector as businesses embrace the digital age with its virtual accountancy and online book-keeping software, and look to us to provide a broader range of services that reflect the challenges and priorities of an ever-changing world," adds James.

"Hodgsons has been at the forefront of innovative accountancy practice since my grandfather established the firm in 1942 and I look forward to continuing this legacy to future-proof the business for many more years to come."

It will be business as usual for the company's existing Falmouth clients and those based in Launceston who wish to transfer.

Hodgsons will also be developing services for private clients and enterprises across a range of sectors that are attuned to its strategic

vision.

This will create career opportunities in Falmouth and the Company is already recruiting new staff.

"It has been a pleasure to have worked with James and played our part in Hodgsons' development, but the time is right to move on," comments Peter Stevenson.

"Sarah Gay and I look forward to developing our own accountancy practice to meet the requirements of our clients."

"I wish Peter and Sarah every success with their new venture, and firmly believe that this reconfiguration will enable us all to play to our strengths and better support businesses throughout Cornwall," added James.
