Charity BF Adventure is looking to provide activity days for local refugee children supported by Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugee Families.
As a specialist in delivering trauma informed youth work in the outdoors for Cornwall's most vulnerable children and young people, BF Adventure aims to use its 60 acre outdoor site, highly trained staff team, and wide range of sporting activities to help children who have fled conflict to integrate into the local community and feel a sense of belonging. To make this possible, it is raising funds via a crowdfunding campaign that offers rewards for donors.
The impact of covid on refugees during the pandemic has presented enormous challenges for children, including isolation and a lack of social and learning opportunities. This has only compounded the difficulties that refugee children face as they look to integrate into a new community. This is why providing activity days for refugee children to enjoy with their friends is so crucial in enabling them to bond over new experiences, deepen friendships and benefit from much-needed experiences that they've been deprived of.
BF Adventure's support to date Some of the refugee children supported by Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugee Families have already experienced a taste of BF Adventure's activities.
Jude Munden, Chair of Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugee Families commented:
"We are so excited to be partnering with BF Adventure. We have just started bringing the kids up for activity days, and they absolutely love it. BF offers experiences that are so valuable and unique. We are really excited to be able to offer these opportunities to children and families who have fled conflict and found themselves in Cornwall. The chance to play and explore new challenges and the resulting increase in self-confidence is a joy to behold. BF represents a very special way for families to integrate, learn new skills and have fun in the beautiful Cornish countryside. The support of you, the community is key to the success of this project and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved!"
BF Adventure's aim going forward Following on from this success, BF Adventure and Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugee Families aim to encourage integration between refugee families and local families. They plan to enable each of the refugee children to bring a friend to BF Adventure during the summer holidays this year. They will use their activities - sports, games, problem solving, kayaking, and climbing - to encourage the children to work together, share experiences and make new friends. The activities are designed to build relationships, break down barriers, and importantly, to have fun.
BF Adventure's crowdfunder BF Adventure's crowdfunder allows supporters to help make these crucial services possible, whilst receiving fantastic rewards. Each £500 raised will give twelve children the opportunity to experience a highly valuable day full of activities, exercise, fun, and friendship.
