Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club launch new crowdfunder to continue beach patrols
Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club is raising £1,500 to be able to continue providing voluntary patrols at Gylly beach, Falmouth in place of the usual RNLI service.
The RNLI is not currently providing its usual lifeguarding service at the beach, and it is unclear when it will return.
The club consists of over 30 trained volunteers, including many former RNLI lifeguards, who have been providing beach patrols every day between 10am and 6pm.
The group observe the beach, provide advice to beach users, and take measures to prevent incidents, they have already carried out several rescues to prevent drownings.
In an appeal for funding the club said:
"So far, we've relied on the basic equipment and supplies of the club and its volunteers.
"We are in desperate need of additional equipment and PPE to allow us to carry out our voluntary beach patrols effectively over the coming weeks and to allow us to extend the level of cover provided by our patrols."
The club says that any donations beyond the initial target will be used for other equipment and supplies, or will otherwise go towards supporting Life Saving Club.
The equipment the club would like funding for is:
- Sun cream
- Hand sanitiser, disinfectant, wipes and spray
- Uniforms and hats
- Beach safety signs
- Specialist rescue equipment - throw lines, tow lines
- VHF radios and waterproof binoculars
