Green light given for boardwalk through Swanvale Community Woodland

This week, plans have been approved for a boardwalk to be built through Swanvale Community Woodland.

The work will see a 170m boardwalk built to open up the natural area for enjoyment and leisure while also providing safe/off-road access from the town to Swanpool and on toward the coast.

As discussed in the application, no trees are to be removed or altered by the proposed walkway, with installation being done by hand so there will be no need for heavy machinery.

Access from the boardwalk's northern point would be from the southern end of the preexisting path to the northwest of The Pump House, and residents can access from the southern point at Meadowside Road.

So, how will it look?

The proposed design of the boardwalk will fit subtly within the woodland area, with composite timber making up a large portion of the construction. The colour will be brown, grey and black.

The boardwalk will allow for the visiting of areas previously unreachable due to the wet terrain.

In a design statement, Falmouth Town Council said on the project:

"The proposal will open up a community woodland area for public enjoyment. This has become increasingly pertinent with regard to people's wellbeing over the past year of COVID-19 restrictions.

"It will provide safe, continuous, off-road access from a central part of Falmouth to Swanpool. All precautions would be taken to maintain the beauty of the area, keeping disruption to a minimum."

The Ramblers Association also voiced their full support for the plans, adding:

"This will give local residents and others good access to enjoy the semi-natural environment of the valley bottom. It will also provide a thorough route linking with other nearby public paths to destinations further up and down the valley and is likely to be very well used."
