Great for Falmouth to welcome brand known all over the world, says councillor on Tarquin's Gin application

By Joseph Macey 2nd Dec 2021

Tarquin's Gin has taken the next step as it looks to branch into Falmouth.

At a meeting of the Town Council's Licensing Committee yesterday evening (29th), councillors agreed it would be positive for Falmouth to welcome a brand known all over the world.

Tarquin's Gin is hoping to move into a vacant site on 57 Church Street, which was formerly a barbershop.

Peter May, head of retail at Tarquin's Gin, said the company loves the idea of having a shop in Falmouth.

He continued:

"An iconic Cornish location. We love the building, it has beautiful double windows at the front and windows out the back looking towards the harbour. We would like to open a gin shop. Giving people tasters as they stroll on by, giving them stories of who we are and what we do."

Mr May revealed the shop would be strictly retail closing around 5pm, with the odd occasion to open later for shopping, and other special occasions.

The shop would be selling gins, a selection of rums, and Pastis liqueur. Alongside paraphernalia, glassware, bar runners, and items for a home bar.

Councillor Steve Eva added:

"I think it is great for Falmouth. It is a brand that is known all over the world, I think we should be supporting this."

The application was accepted by the committee and will go to Cornwall Council for further discussion, and a decision.
