Former Falmouth music venue could be turned into restaurant

By Joseph Macey 9th Apr 2022

Plans look like they are in motion to breathe new life into the former MONO building with a restaurant and accommodation.

Popular Falmouth bar, live music venue, and nightclub MONO based on Killigrew Street closed its doors in 2018 - the building has since been left empty.

However, that could be about to change following an application submitted by Mr Stuart Angove of The Residential Design Studio.

Plans were submitted last week (29th) to resume the operation of the ground floor bar and restaurant area as a revived venue and to convert the above ancillary accommodation into a single dwelling for the owners.

The designs show a new seating area would be added on the ground floor alongside a bar, kitchen, and toilets.

A planning statement reads:

"The architectural and historic interest of this listed building will be unaffected by the proposed works as all changes are interior. Most of the internal areas have already been altered and there are very few original features left following years of adjustments and alterations. The internal stairs are the only existing item of interest and as such will remain untouched.

"The new development will be developed solely on the internal areas of the property which apart from repairs and redecoration will remain the same as the existing appearance."

The current status of the application is "awaiting decision".
