Flushing residents have continued to speak out on social media about the treatment of their beach as they fight to keep it clean.

Photos uploaded to social media show litter that has been left on the beach and on top of bins, including 'panty liners' and 'wet wipes'.

The flushing resident stated: "Rubbish shouldn't be left at any time, but especially at a time when we are asked to be hygienic.

"Some people clearly don't care that someone will be picking up after them. No one should be picking up glass bottles, broken glass, used BBQs and even sanitary items."

A volunteer group regularly cleans the beach and village, but they want beachgoers to show more respect for their surroundings.

Many residents are also worried that social distancing and government guidelines are not being followed, and recently reported a thirty person group outing on their beach.

The Volunteer Group have put out an appeal on social media urging visitors to respect the village, maintain social distancing and avoid littering.

Part of the appeal reads:

"We understand that new government guidance states that it is acceptable to travel for exercise and recreational activities: however, Flushing has many residents who are unable to travel so visiting this beach is their only option.

"Please consider this when travelling to our only beach."

The group is planning to keep a log of certain littered items throughout summer and create signs to show visitors the problem.
