Five Penryn College students have been presented with awards following their fantastic efforts in an illustration competition funded by The Arts Society Falmouth.

The competition/course is part of an initiative to make fashion illustration resources and support easily accessible to young people at all times and provides students with the opportunity to showcase their skills by completing seven sets of designs using a variety of artistic mediums.

After a lengthy process of looking through all the great entries, Penryn College Textiles, Art & Fashion Design teacher, Ms. A, selected five winners from five categories, who were presented with the awards by members of The Arts Society Falmouth:

Year 7 Fashion Illustrator of the Year 2022 – Suki (now Year 8)

Year 8 Fashion Illustrator of the Year 2022 – Bluebell (now Year 9)

Year 9 Fashion Illustrator of the Year 2022 – Keeley (now Year 10)

Year 8 Fashion Illustrator with Exceptional Skill 2022 – Lilly (now Year 9)

Year 9 Fashion Illustrator with Exceptional Skill 2022 – Lucy (now Year 10)

On hand to present the awards was Arts Society Falmouth's Young Arts representative, Maggie Letch, along with committee members, Jean Woodroffe and Jeni Fraser. Following the presentation, Maggie was full of praise for Penryn College's students and staff.

She said: "The Arts Society Falmouth has been delighted to support this innovative competition. I was extremely impressed by the creative talent and artistic skill of the entries, and all of the students should be very proud of their achievements. They're our fashion designers and illustrators of the future!

"It has also been a great pleasure working with such dedicated and supportive staff at Penryn College," she continued.

Penryn College's Ms. A expressed her gratitude to The Arts Society Falmouth for its role in supporting the school and providing such fantastic opportunities for students.

She said: "The generosity of the Arts Society is enabling pupils, their parents/carers, and those in further and higher education to see the Penryn College Textiles, Art & Fashion Design GCSE course as a fast track to a career in the fashion design industry.

"Many schools in Cornwall have cut the funding for this type of GCSE course over the past few years. However, with the Arts Society providing financial support for out-of-hours learning opportunities - where students can access the resources, information, and support both in school and at home - this type of fashion academy can only go from strength to strength," she concluded.
