Yesterday afternoon the fire service and a local vet nurse were tasked to help an injured Cygnet stuck on Argal Dam, Penryn.

The news was shared on social media on Sunday afternoon by a Penryn resident appealing for help:

"If anyone knows of people with climbing equipment/rescue centres that would come out to this trapped signet at Argal Dam - please let them know about it asap as it looks tired and weary and I'm worried it's going to fall off before it's saved."

On hand was Falmouth student vet nurse Chloe Mai Burrows, responding first to the incident.

In an update Chloe added:

"After a couple of hours, the fire service was able to get the bird down off the rapids so it could be caught below. Poor bugger doesn't have any serious injuries but very waterlogged, tired and has poor colour probably due to aspirating on a lot of water."

The bird was handed over to the RSPCA and it will be taken to a specialist centre for rehab.
