A yellow weather warning is in place for Falmouth tonight as 60mph winds are expected to hit Cornwall.

A yellow alert is in force from 9pm on Monday night through until 10am on Tuesday morning.

The HM Coastguard Area 11 Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Coastal Safety said:

"If you see someone putting themselves or others at risk near the coast or sea call 999 and ask for the coastguard."

Forecasters say it could cause power problems and travel trouble, for those needing to make essential journeys.

The gales could also whip up big waves and people are being urged to take care if near the coast.

What to expect:

Some short term loss of power and other services.

It is likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities may be affected by spray or large waves.

Tonight:

Cloudy and windy in the far southwest with local gales as well as heavy rain and perhaps thunder later in the night.

Tuesday:

Heavy rain, strong winds and perhaps some thunder to start in the southwest, easing later in the morning.
