Falmouth Town Council has said "remain responsible" in an open letter reminding residents to observe the social distancing requirements.

Last week Falmouth Town Clerk Mark Williams said he was "disappointed" after some groups were still choosing to ignore social distancing requirements in the parks.

In the letter, Town Mayor Steve Eva and Town Clerk Mark Williams said:

"Municipal life pales to insignificance at times like these, but there are important things that need to be done and we have focussed on those. Your Councillors are not meeting but have delegated operational decision making to the Town Clerk and Mayor so that things continue.

"For example, we have tried to keep parks and gardens open, our cemetery operational, our Environmental Education Officers are assisting the Police and RNLI enforcing social distancing requirements, co-ordination of volunteering and we are assisting the local production and distribution of personal protective equipment.

"Your Cultural Services Team continues to engage with young people and assist schools and home learning. Your Town Team is supporting our traders and local businesses to access grants and assistance as well as preparing recovery plans. Your Grounds Team continue to maintain our environmental assets.

"We already knew what a great community Falmouth is, but this current situation has shown many examples of selfless volunteering. And we are very pleased to be able to help support and coordinate those efforts.

"We have taken inspiration from Honorary Colonel Tom Moore and in his words 'tomorrow will be a good day'. And it will. But whilst we all want tomorrow to come as quickly as possible, we all must continue to remain responsible, there is evidence the measures are working to slow the spread of the pandemic and it is important that is not undone, please continue to stay at home and stay safe and well."
