On the beat: Falmouth to get new town centre police officer
Falmouth will soon be getting a town beat officer after it was announced there would be new positions in four towns.
Superintendent Adrian Leisk has announced that Falmouth, Truro, Penzance and Camborne will be getting a dedicated town officer.
The appointments come after the arrival of the new uplift officers that has allowed Devon and Cornwall Police to review the Neighbourhood Policing offer in West Cornwall.
Superintendent Adrian Leisk told Nub News:
"We have always had a neighbourhood policing team, but with the loss of over 450 officers, they were often called to answer calls for service supporting response colleagues.
"These officers will be patrolling the area on foot, remaining visible and accessible to local business and residents. They will be focusing on reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, including working with licensed premises to ensure a safe and vibrant evening and the night-time economy. They will not be abstracted for other policing duties.
"Until the announcement of new staff and time with their arrival, we are able to dedicate these roles to supporting these high demand areas. Communities have been asking for this, and there is an identified need."
Five years on from his passing, Leisk also paid tribute to PC Andy Hocking on Twitter:
"Working out of Falmouth station it is difficult not to be moved by the enduring presence of PC Andy Hocking. I love what he stood for and the value placed in him by the local community."
The new officers will be in post from the 23rd and 24th of March.
Falmouth Town Clerk Mark Williams commented:
"Falmouth is well served by its community police team, any addition to that resource or to the local response officers is to be welcomed."
