Local community radio station Source FM picked up gold and silver at the 2019 Community Radio Awards on Saturday.

In the Live Event or Outside Broadcast of the Year, a gold award was given to the Source FM Christmas Party 2018. Silver was awarded to Parklive.

This was the first time Source FM had entered the Community Radio Awards.

Simon Neild, Radio Producer & Presenter - About You and Inside Local Music on SourceFM, told Falmouth Nub News:

"The awards were amazing and we weren't really aware of just how big it was until they opened the doors, we looked inside the hall and it was massive.

"There were about 150 people in the room, there were people from all over the country.

"We were quite far down the list, so it got a bit nerve-racking, waiting to see what would happen and then when they got to our category they called Parklive as silver which we were all really chuffed with.

"We didn't think we could get two awards and then they called the Christmas show as gold and everyone was absolutely elated.

"It is huge for us, to get gold and silver in the outside broadcast category means we are the best in the country at that."

"Both Parklive and the Source FM Christmas Party work really well because of the fantastic, dedicated crew who are responsible for both shows.

"They all work long hours for free. Also, the shows would not happen if the talented musicians who are featured were not prepared to give freely of their time"
