The Spirit of Falmouth Rugby Club could not be dampened on Saturday (22 July), as 160 members spanning generations came together in a marquee on the Recreation Ground to celebrate 150 years of continuous rugby in Falmouth.

The gala dinner star speaker Gareth Chilcott, former Bath, England, and British & Irish Lions prop, entertained the tent with his quick-fire wit and tales of days of old, while players and volunteers were acknowledged for their commitment to the club.

As the new guard received their club colours, the long-serving Jon Baglow was revealed as the 2023-24 club captain, along with co-captains Alex Bullock and Finn Deavin.

Director of Rugby, Tom Spiller, received the inaugural Presidents Shield, from President Paul Radmore, and spoke of his great pride in being able to work with such an amazing pool of committed volunteers and people, who have a shared passion for the future of Falmouth Rugby. The former Captain hung up his boots at the end of the season after 400+ games for Falmouth.

Danny Trick brand ambassador was recognised for his efforts in transforming the club's identity over the last 12 months and was awarded the John Bullock Cup as club person of the year.

Danny said "What a great honour to have been recognised in this milestone year, especially when we have so many worthy candidates who work so tirelessly behind the scenes, like everyone's favourite club duo, Colin & Cath Trewavas who were presented with the Christine Baker volunteer of the year cup.

"It has been an amazing evening and we are all very much looking forward to continuing this momentum into the coming season."

Tonight (26 July) the club is holding a free silent disco for the membership in the marquee on the Rec, with friends, family, and any prospective new members welcome to join in on the fun. The Academy Kids Silent Disco will be from 5 pm - 7 pm and the Adults are kicking off from 7:30.

The club is also looking forward to welcoming anyone interested in building toward the future at their annual general meeting, which is being held at the Clubhouse on Friday 4 August starting at 6 pm.
