A group of Falmouth rowers from the local gig club recently completed a mammoth charity bike ride over the August Bank Holiday.

Adam, Paul, Jordan, Simon and Josh cycled over 360 miles from London to lands end.

The group tackled 800ft climbs, punctures and one fall to complete the challenge.

Josh Teague told Nub News:

"It was an extremely tough challenge, mentally and physically, putting in 12 hour days on the bike, but for an amazing cause"

"The 800ft climb out of Dawlish made the "Maenporth Murderer" seem like a nursery slope.

"I've never looked forward to arriving at a Travelodge so much before in my life.

"Chaffing cream, pork pies and jelly babies were my way through the pain."

The route took the crew from London down to Winchester, through the new forest, Bournemouth, Dorchester, down to Lyme Regis, through Exeter, over to Newton Abbott and Plymouth.

Across the Torpoint Ferry, through Saltash, Lostwithiel, across to St Austell and Truro, down through Penryn (where they were joined by fellow gig club members) for the last sprint to Helston, Penzance and to Lands End.

The ride was sponsored by Rodda's Cream, Truro Timber Frame, Marnick builders, TTF truss solutions and ARW scaffolding.

So far the total stands at £2500 for Children's Hospice South West and Falmouth Gig Club, after initially having a target of £800.
