An outcry on social media has taken aim at dog's mess around Falmouth, calling for improvement by owners in the picking up of their dog foul.

Cecily Brand wrote on a popular Falmouth Facebook group:

"Keep seeing/ going in dog poop! Please can you all try to pick it up, it's not fair on everyone else and it's just not nice.

"In the woods, I can understand sometimes someone might cover it or and sweep it out the way, but on the pavements, I don't think it's acceptable.

"I am sure I am not the only one who would appreciate an improvement. Thank you."

Cornwall Council enforces a Public Spaces Protection Order which gives found guilty offenders a maximum one thousand pound fine.

The Council website reads:

"We only have a limited number of Dog Welfare and Enforcement Officers in Cornwall. However, there are a number of other officers who are able to issue fixed penalties.

"Many of these are not uniformed officers. This means that there is a relatively high chance that you will be caught should you not clear up after your dog has fouled."

Leann Wright wrote on Facebook: "I see too much of it at the beach and around the cafe area, I don't understand why it's just left anywhere but around food areas is just awful. And it's me that has to pick it up."

Cornwall Council states they will investigate every dog foul complaint issued to them. You can file a complaint online via their website.

The Dog Welfare and Enforcement Service has been contacted for a comment.
