Residents have reacted to a new planning application to construct a boathouse on the foreshore just downstream from The Pandora Inn.

The plans have been greeted largely with frustration, with The Pandora Inn saying on social media that the boathouse "will obstruct the uninterrupted view that you have always enjoyed."

The boathouse is planned for Creekside, Restronguet, Mylor Bridge.

In a summary Enhance Land and Planning said:

"This application seeks planning permission for the construction of a boathouse on the stretch of river associated with Creekside, Restrongruet.

"The boathouse is required for storage and easy access to the river, as Creekside itself lies across the lane from the river, and is not easy to access with large watercraft. The boathouse will not appear incongruous on the site, as there are several existing boathouses along this stretch of river.

"The foreshore on which the boathouse is proposed is well vegetated and the jagged nature of the line of the cliff provides natural screening from neighbouring properties, including the pontoon

associated with the Pandora Inn.

"The proposed development complies with Policies 1, 12, 13, 23, 24 and 26 of the Cornwall Local Plan. The development should, therefore, be approved in line with the provisions of the Planning

and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004."

Residents have heavily objected to the plans, one comment reads:

"I wish to object to this proposal because in my opinion, the development is not suitable in this particular location.

"Notwithstanding that we are neighbours, and while I fully respect the right of the applicants to make their application, the concern is, in my opinion, that any benefit the applicants may derive from adding a boathouse to their property is entirely outweighed by the negative impacts on the creek, the beach and others in the community.

"In another location, a boathouse might be perfectly acceptable, but in this specific location, it would be an intrusive development and one that is not wanted by the local community."

A second comment reads:

"This application would damage the incredible and unique views of this area of the shoreline, viewed both from the land all around, and from the water.

"The boathouse is large in size and unnecessarily so. It is not in keeping with the surrounding area. If storage of a boat is required, it is suggested that the owner facilitates a small floating pontoon, or running mooring on a pulley system.

"Either of those options would allow storage, potentially dry, of a vessel without causing undue visual, environmental and ecological damage to this fragile ecological area."

A third comment says:

"I strongly object to this application. I cannot comment as succinctly nor in as much detail as some very local residents have done, but strongly object to any proposal to build on the foreshore of Carrick Roads, or any of the surrounding rivers and creeks.

"This is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and should be preserved for future generations and for the continued use of local residents. Any construction in a waterside location is going to cause disruption to local wildlife that will never be restored."
