A developer has returned with an updated scheme for homes on Church Street, Falmouth.

Submitted by Cornwall Planning Group on behalf of Mr & Mrs Fletcher - they hope to build two traditional dwellings on land to the rear of 16-17 Church Street.

The proposal seeks the demolition of the existing block structure on the site and the construction of a two storey rectangle shaped building that is oriented to the west (rear) of the site, to accommodate semi-detached houses.

Internally, each would have a floor area of approximately 45sqm, comprising an open plan dining/kitchen and living spaces on the ground floor, two bedrooms and family bathroom on the first floor, and a third bedroom in the loft space.

As reported earlier this month, plans were withdrawn for an L-shaped block that would've comprised of four apartments. The previous application was recommended for refusal by Falmouth Town Council, and received numerous objections from nearby residents.

The application reads: "The site is in a highly sustainable location set back from the main shopping street within the Falmouth town centre and would make a positive contribution to increasing the delivery rate of housing, as supported by the Falmouth NDP. It is a previously developed, brownfield site and is currently in a disused and overgrown state.

"The proposal in its amended form has taken consideration of the previously refused scheme and has been amended so as to consider the capabilities of the site and the location and nature of surrounding development. As detailed above, the proposed two storey building has been sensitively designed, whilst ensuring a high-quality form of development for future occupants."
