Officers will be deployed in Falmouth this weekend as part of a national scheme.

The Safer Streets operation is being rolled out across the country which focuses on preventing violence against women and girls.

Police in Falmouth will be patrolling the town offering reassurance to residents on Saturday 11th December.

They will be wearing high visibility jackets and there will be some plain clothes officers patrolling. All officers will be double crewed and will have identification available upon request.

A spokesperson for the local policing team commented:

"Nationally there is a focus to implement Safer Streets Operations to make public spaces within the night-time economy safer for all, with a focus on preventing violence against women and girls.

"Historically the police recognise that there are a significant numbers of crimes committed against victims during the evenings and that women and girls are significantly more likely to be the victims.

"The offences include public order, anti-social behaviour, and violence. Often these offences can be directly linked to alcohol and drug abuse."
