The green light has been given to change the layout of a town centre building in Falmouth.

Lorenzo Property Ltd were bidding to change a building on The Moor around, with Gurkha Indian and Nepalese restaurant moving downstairs to the old KFC building, and the upstairs being turned into apartments.

This week, Thursday 7th, plans were given conditional approval by Cornwall Council.

The plans were supported by the Town Council, Falmouth Civic Society, and the Conservation Committee, with the civic society hoping it will "bring life" back into The Moor.

The need to return activity to the ground floor building was recognised by the applicant, as it has been empty since KFC closed down in February 2020.

The first floor which will be vacated by Gurkha restaurant, will then be utilised to provide 3 new 3 bedroom residential dwellings.

To ensure minimal impact on the adjacent listed assets and the surrounding area, the developers said they will not be doing any major structural work, with no new window openings or additions to the main front facing the street.

Work has been well underway on the new Gurkha restaurant, although no time scale has been given as to when they will open the new premises.
