A new community facility was opened in Falmouth this week.

The Day Unit at Falmouth Hospital was unveiled on Wednesday.

A Medical Day Unit is a specialist unit where patients can be assessed and treated in a day and don't need to stay overnight in the hospital.

Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Truro, Cherilyn Mackrory, said:

"The new day unit offering is incredibly important because it offers a warm and friendly environment for visitors, or friends and family of visitors, to come when they visit the hospital for a short amount of time - often in and out in a day. Falmouth has been without an adequate day unit for some time now so it is very much a welcome addition to the hospital."

Cherilyn Mackrory also praised the work of the Friends of Falmouth Hospital who raise money in the Falmouth and Penryn area for the benefit of patients. Cherilyn added:

"The facility was opened by Dr Barbara Vann who was incredibly complimentary of the new day unit because she knows how important these facilities are in community hospitals.

"It has taken over eight years of hard work, particularly from the Friends of Falmouth Hospital, to get to this position, so we are all very appreciative of their efforts over the years."

"Projects and positive change is exactly what we need in towns like Falmouth. There is always something going on, so I cannot wait to see what is next."

The Day Unit is open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4.30pm.
